On 11 November 2025, the Salesian world celebrated the 150th anniversary of its first missionary expedition, launched by Don Bosco in 1875 when ten missionaries sailed from Genoa to Argentina. Their mission—to share the Gospel in Don Bosco’s practical, loving style—focused on serving the poor, migrants, and indigenous peoples. From this humble beginning, missionary zeal spread globally: over 10,700 Salesians have undertaken 155 expeditions, and today they serve in 137 nations. The Mumbai Province shares deeply in this legacy, shaped by 47 foreign missionaries since 1928, whose dedication built institutions and nurtured faith. The anniversary motto, “Give Thanks, Rethink, Relaunch,” calls for gratitude and renewal. This commemorative volume, Grateful Memories, preserves their obituaries as tributes to lives spent in service of God and youth. It honors their sacrifices and inspires future generations to continue their mission with zeal, generosity, and fidelity.
